Imagine that you are an actor for whom hoarseness is a constant issue after performances. One day the loss of your voice is complete. That is exactly what happened with the Australian Fredrick Mathias Alexander (1869-1955).  This Shakespearean Actor was unable to continue his career, even after seeking help from the traditional medicine of the time. The turning point was when Alexander asked himself: “What have I been doing that is causing this problem?”.  To answer this question, he committed himself to an intense period of self-observation in which he developed his unique work of refining human potential. His practical research led to his recovery as well as the improvement of his whole psycho-physical organism.

Alexander wrote four books:
  • Man's Supreme Inheritance (1910)
  • Constructive Conscious Control of the Individual (1923)
  • The Use of the Self  (1932)
  • The Universal Constant in Living (1943)

The Alexander Technique has been studied and applied for more than 100 years.  Even today his work and discoveries surprise students with their innovation and simplicity.
